Abstract: Application of problem teaching as a part of coomonly called special type of teaching appears rather precious in geography teaching, because it may take over one of the main roles in eliminating negative image of geography as an excusively descriptive teaching subject. It is characterized by difficulty, novelty of situation, and contradictorness between known and unknown facts as well as conscious, directed, creative and independent activity, which helps the student to understand relations between the given and the set goals and, by finding new solutions, finally aquire new knowledge and realize new generalizations, applicable to new situations. Problem teaching is applicable to all age groups of students, with necessary differentiated choice of problem tasks.
